Last week my dear children were playing (fighting) for my phone, I bet you probably already know how the story ends, and yes you are right, my phone ends up completely broken. I got very upset about the whole situation, my first thought was "Oh my, what am I going to do without instagram?". Yeah! pathetic isn't it? I seriously got so upset about a broken phone that it got me thinking about how much time I was spending on social media and if it was affecting my family.
I talk to Amner at the next day and told him that I was unplugging myself from social media, he knows how much I love my instagram so right away he offered his phone. I just tought for fun I could run a little experiment and see how long I could go without it and to see if it was actually affecting my life. It sounds a bit dramatic I know, but I believe it kind of was.
I haven't had a facebook account for about two months, and you know something? best thing I've ever done. I should give Amner some credit about it because my decision was inspired by him, he made his decision about a year ago and he will always tell me how much more free time he had on his hands and how different he felt. One week after I left facebook I started blogging., something that I always claimed I never had time for. Facebook was easy to forget about but not instagram. I swear that by the second day I was having withdrawals. By the third day I realized how much stuff I had done. The house was spotless, laundry was done, I had done about three projects with the kids to put on the blog and I could keep going on and on.
I am not here trying to tell you how social media is evil and it's ruining our lives, NO! I just thought it would be fun to share my little experiment. I do believe that all this modern technology gets in the way of our living, but that's my own opinion. Obviously the fact that my phone broke is what actually made me want to unplug. I mean, I was pretty much forced to do it. Is not like I haven't been thinking about it, sometimes I noticed mom's pushing their children on the swing while being totally checked out and staring at their phone. You know what? I've been one of those mom's, and that in my eyes is very WRONG. My kids are growing super fast, and I don't want to lose a second of their precious lives.
Now, it doesn't mean I'm never going to be back on instagram, you are not that lucky! I love to take photos of my monsters and share them with you all. I think they are too fun to not share them. I'm just going to do things a bit different, I'm going to shut my phone off a couple days a week and enjoy my precious little family, I will let you know how it goes.
I'm going to be phone less for another week, and I am OK with that. I'll see you back in instagram soon!
Laura.
P.S. Have you ever try to look at your significant other when you are on a car ride instead of looking at your phone? you should try it! best feeling ever!
