This past weekend was a total dream for me! why do weekends have to be so short? weekends are always good on our house because papi is home, but this one just kind of top a lot of other weekends!
We did all kinds of things, we took a walk at night by the Des Moines river, we had an amazing breakfast together, we took the kids to the zoo, went on a late night bike ride and rode the bikes through the sprinklers at the Pappajohn's sculpture park, but the highlight of our weekend was a little trip we took to Kansas City on Sunday with a couple of our friends to see the Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and masterpieces of modern Mexico exhibition.
On Sunday Morning we woke up bright and early and went to watch my brother Angel's soccer game it was the final championship and his team won, it was a great game and I was very happy to see them win because I know how hard him and his team have work for it, I was a proud sister. After the game we drop off the kids and we drove to Kansas City, I wasn't so sure about leaving the kids but Amner told me like a thousand times that everything was going to be fine and that we really need it to spend some time alone, I am glad he insisted because I had the time of my life.
The exhibition was just amazing, it has always been one of my dreams to see Frida's paintings, my mother introduce me to her work at a very early age when we live in Mexico and from there I develop a love and sort of an obsession for her work and story, needles to say I was very excited to finally be there in front of her work, now I cannot wait for the day when we can take the kids to "La casa azul" in Coyoacan, Mexico. Everything at the exhibition was beautiful, they have around a 100 paintings, sculptures and drawings not just by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera but from a lot of other Mexican artists, the exhibition showcases the rich artistic traditions of the Mexico of yesterday and celebrate the vitality of Mexican art today as the museum says.
Being in there surrounded by all the beauty was quite emotional, it reminded it me, how proud I am of where I come from. I f you have the chance to stop by The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas city, Missouri you definitely should the Exhibition will be there until August 18th.
After the Museum we had dinner at "La bodega" a delicious Spanish restaurant, we had Tapas and Sangria (I had a lot of that), then we move to a little bar to start pre-drinking before the NKOTB concert, yes I went to see NKOTB, 98* and boyz II men and I had a great time not more than Amner and Kenji but I had fun :) I came home with no voice!
I hope your weekend was amazing too!
besos.
Laura.
P.S. I miss all of you on IG a whole bunch! :(
